Understanding Art School Tours
Cost: $2 per person
1 1/2 hours; available Monday - Saturday, 9am to 3pm
Understanding Art is a custom tour supporting each special exhibition.
A new experience is
offered with each visit! This tour is designed for elementary
school children, but can be adapted for pre-school children,
high school students, and even adults.
During your Understanding Art tour, your students will:
- Tour the current exhibitions led by a trained docent.
- Work with a Krasl Art Center artist to create artwork inspired by the exhibitions.
- View an informative visual presentation that explains the history of and/or influence behind the current exhibitions.
The Understanding Art Teacher's Manual (click to download) offers pre- and post-tour activities, curriculum connections, vocabulary words and
much more.

Art Touch Presentations
Cost: $45, Limited to 30 people
Art Touch is a series of seven hands-on art and culture kits brought right to your classroom or group.
A trained Krasl Art Center presenter will bring to your class decorative art, textiles, metal work, jewelry and everyday
objects to see and touch. Each one-hour presentation comes with a teacher's manual for you to keep which is packed with
valuable information.

- Potawatomi: Keepers of the Fire
- Sculpture Alive!
Because of the hands-on nature of the presentation groups are limited to 30 people. Multiple presentations can be scheduled.

ArtReach Portfolios
Free
The Krasl Art Center's ArtReach program provides 141 thematic portfolios, containing more than 400 poster-size reproductions
of famous works of art for your classroom, scout troop or community group. Lists of artists are available to assist you in locating desired works of art.
- Each portfolio contains 3-5 reproductions, information about the art and artist and written
guides to help you present the artwork.
- Additional information is available on many artists and related art projects for your classroom.
- Annually, we offer a special training session for interested persons.
ArtReach Workshop
Wed., Jan. 20, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
For: Classroom Volunteers, PTA Members, Art Enthusiasts
Join Erica Westbrook, Assistant Director of Education and art educator, as she shows you ways to utilize the ArtReach program and introduces the many educational opportunities found at the KAC. The ArtReach program contains over 300 large reproductions of famous works of art mounted on lightweight foam core and historical information about each work of art. ArtReach portfolios are loaned to the public at no charge for educational programming. Volunteers or teachers from area schools take the portfolios into classrooms to share with students. Workshop participants will be given examples of ways to effectively impart lessons in creative thinking, observation, creative writing and much more.
