TripsTake a trip with us...discover somewhere new or visit one of your favorite art stops. Trips are open to everyone. ![]() GM Heritage CollectionWhen: Thursday, June 12 Over the years the Krasl Art Center has co-sponsored, along with The Herald Palladium, an annual trip to a destination that appeals to car buffs. This year Dar Davis, bus trip escort, has found a trip destination that is something really special. It is a collection of automobiles, both production and concepts, which few people have seen because it is not open to the public. It is an archival collection that holds a company's historic documents, artifacts and cars. On Thursday, June 12 join car nut Dar Davis and visit the little known but highly regarded General Motors Heritage Collection in Sterling Heights. The collection has over 800 vehicles but the facility that displays the vehicles, located just a few blocks north of the famous GM Tech Center, can only hold 200 cars. But what wonderful cars they are. The collection is rotated periodically, and some are loaned out to other museums or go to special events. For a better idea of what is in the collection, simply visit a search engine on the Internet and under search write “GM Heritage Collection.” In addition to a visit to the exciting GM Heritage Collection, Dar has also scheduled a stopover at the Automotive Hall of Fame (AHF) in Dearborn. Located next door to the Henry Ford Museum, the AHF's primary mission is to recognize outstanding achievement in the automotive and related industries. The AHF has resided in several locations until building the present permanent facility that opened in August of 1997. Over 200 individuals have been inducted into the AHF and include such pioneers and leaders as Benz, Bugatti, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroen, Daimler, Dodge, Honda, Maybach, Porsche and Sloan to name a few. The AHF welcomes nearly 30,000 visitors a year. Cost for this daylong excursion is $69. The price includes transportation, driver gratuity, admission fees and snacks served on board. Lunch and dinner is on your own. We will dine at the Michigan Café at the Henry Ford Museum for lunch and at a food court in a major mall for dinner. Questions about the trip should be directed to Dar Davis at 269 983-0742 or e-mail him Dar Davis. Call or visit the Krasl Art Center to make reservations.
